Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get on the Nevada CNA Registry and essential details for maintaining an active status.

Requirements to get on the Nevada CNA Registry

Fees

The application fee is $50 and non-refundable.

Minimum Age

You must be at least 16 years old to be eligible for registration. Some training schools will require you to be at least 17 years old to apply.

Minimum Education

Training schools may require you to have a high school diploma or a GED.

Training Requirements

To qualify you must attend a state-approved Nursing Assistant Training Program (NATP) providing a minimum of hours of instruction, with a least 60 hours of theory and learning skills in a laboratory setting.

Competency Test

To be certified on the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry, you must take the NNAAP® Examination, constituting of a Written (or Oral) Examination and a Skills Evaluation. You can register to take the test on the Credentia CNA360 platform.

The Written Examination consists of seventy multiple-choice questions, and the Skills Evaluation consists of five randomly selected Nurse Aide skills. The complete list of skills can be found in the Nursing Handbook.

Fees:

  • Skills Evaluation: $90
  • Written or Oral Examination: $50

Background Check

To be registered with the Nevada Board of Nursing you must have a completed fingerprint card or an electronic fingerprint submission (only available in Nevada). See the Board’s Fingerprint Instructions for more information on how to comply with this requirement. If you have completed fingerprints for the Board in the last six months, you do not need to submit the fingerprints again.

Applying to appear on the Nevada CNA Registry

Where to apply

You must submit your application via the Nevada Nurse Portal within one year of completing an approved training program.

Required Documentation

You must submit the following documentation on the portal:

  • a copy of your certificate of successful completion of a state-approved training program that meets current OBRA
    requirements, or a transcript showing the completion of “nursing fundamentals”
  • completed fingerprint card OR electronic fingerprint submission

Restrictions

If you have a criminal conviction, you will need to explain it to the Board. If the conviction falls within one of the categories listed in the Board’s Crimimnal Conviction FAQs, you will not be allowed to register as a CNA in Nevada.

Processing Time

It takes at least one week to process the application.

How to keep your license on the Nevada CNA Registry

Stay Active

The certification period is for 24 months, and you must renew every 2 years by providing verification that you have completed 24 continuing education (CE) hours and have practiced at least 40 hours as a CNA during the 24-month time frame.

Renew

To renew your license, you must:

  1. you must login to your Nevada Nurse Portal account
  2. click on the “Start your renewal application” or “Apply for Renewal” link
  3. upload a copy of your continuing education/training certificates
  4. submit the completed Certified Nursing Assistant Employment Verification
  5. pay the $50 renewal fee

You can renew your license at lest 60 days before its expiration date. You will not be able to renew your license through the portal after that 60-day period.

Processing time: 72 hours.

Reactivate your expired license

If you have forgotten to renew your certification on time, but you’ve met the requirements, you must contact the Board (see below for contact details).

If have not met the requirements and the certification expired, you must retake a state-approved CNA training program or retake and pass the CNA skills and manual exams.
