Some training schools will require you to be at least 17 years old to apply.

Training school may require to have a high school diploma or a GED.

Training Requirements

South Carolina requires CNAs to have undertaken a minimum of one hundred (100) hours of training, divided into forty (40) hours of classroom
instruction, twenty (20) hours of documented skills practice, and forty (40) hours of clinical rotation in a nursing home supervised by an approved Registered Nurse.

Competency Test

To be certified on the South Carolina Nurse Aide Registry, you must, within two years of completing the training requirements, take and pass the board-approved skills and written portions of the state examination. To take the test, you must sign up with Credentia. You will need to upload your Certificate of Course Completion.

Background Check

This will be required by your employer.

Stay Active

The certification period is for 24 months, and you must renew every 2 years by providing verification that you have worked a minimum of eight hours during the 24-month time frame.

Renew

To renew your application, you must log in to Credentia, click on “registry” and then “renewal”. Follow the procedure and pay the $35 fee.
