To work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Reno, you must meet the statewide CNA requirements set by Nevada. These include completing a Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN)-approved Nursing Assistant Training Program (NATP), passing the state knowledge and skills competency examinations administered by D&SDT-Headmaster, and obtaining a CNA certificate from the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

  • At least 75 total hours of instruction, including no fewer than 60 hours of theory and laboratory skills, plus supervised clinical practice
  • Completion of 16 hours of classroom instruction before any direct patient contact
  • Minimum age of 16 years old, along with good moral character and good physical and mental health

Certification must be renewed every two years on the certificate holder's birthday, and to renew you must complete at least 24 hours of continuing training and 40 hours of nursing assistant employment under RN or LPN supervision during the preceding 24 months. Nevada charges a $50 application fee and a $50 renewal fee.

Already certified in another state? Nevada offers certification by endorsement for nursing assistants who hold an active certification or license in good standing in another state. Approved applicants who meet Nevada's endorsement requirements generally do not need to repeat the 75-hour training program or retake the competency exams, and the Board may issue a six-month temporary certificate while the application is processed.
