Requirements to Work as a CNA in Oklahoma City, OK

To work as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in Oklahoma City, you must meet the statewide CNA requirements set by Oklahoma. For long-term care, Oklahoma uses the Long Term Care Aide (LTCA) designation. These requirements include completing an Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH)–approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program, passing the state competency examination administered through Oklahoma CareerTech's Health Certification Project, and being listed on the Oklahoma Nurse Aide Registry.

• At least 75 total hours of training, including a minimum of 16 hours of supervised practical training
• Completion of 16 hours of instruction before any direct resident contact
• Passing both the knowledge test (Long Term Care Aide "7C" exam, 70 questions, 120 minutes, 70% to pass) and the clinical skills evaluation (80% accuracy required)
• Up to three attempts to pass the competency examination before retraining is required
• Certification and placement on the Oklahoma Nurse Aide Registry maintained by OSDH

Once certified, you may work as a Long Term Care Aide in nursing facilities and other settings where Oklahoma recognizes LTCA certification throughout Oklahoma City and across the state. LTCA certification must be renewed every two years, and to renew you must document at least 8 hours of paid nursing or health-related services during the preceding 24 months. There is no OSDH renewal fee for Long Term Care Aide certification.

Already certified in another state? Oklahoma offers reciprocity for out-of-state aides who meet the state's reciprocity requirements and do not have a disqualifying finding of abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or misappropriation of property.
