Welcome to the gateway for becoming a CNA in Georgia! The Georgia CNA Registry serves as the authoritative hub, ensuring the qualification, competence, and adherence to standards for all CNAs in the state. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get on the Georgia CNA Registry and essential details for maintaining an active status.

Requirements to get on the Georgia CNA Registry

Fees

The application process is free of charge.

Minimum Age

Some training schools and employers will require you to be at least 17 or 18 years old.

Minimum Education

Training school may require to have a high school diploma or a GED.

Training Requirements

To qualify you must complete a state-approved Nurse Aide training program. Approved programs can be searched here.

Competency Test

To be certified on the Georgia Nurse Aide Registry, you must successfully pass the competency exam. You need to apply for the written/oral and skills competency examination within one year of successfully completing your nurse aide program. To apply for the exam you can visit Credentia and sign up/log in to schedule the test, or you can call the registry at (800) 414-4358. You have three attempts for both the skills and written/oral part of the exam.

Many programs as well as employers require you to submit a clear criminal background check.

How to keep your license on the Georgia CNA Registry

Stay Active

The certification period is for 24 months, and you must renew every 2 years by providing verification that within the last 24 months you have worked a minimum of 8 hours under the supervision of a nurse. If you have not worked the minimum required hours, you will be required to retake the competency exam.

Renew

To renew your application, you must fill out the renewal form online or the renewal form that you receive by mail approximately 60 days before your certification is set to expire. On the form, you will need to provide information about your current or most recent employer. Finally, the application form needs to be sent by mail to Georgia Nurse Aide Registry, PO Box 105753 Atlanta, GA 30348.

The renewal process is free of charge and is usually processed within 10 business days.

Reactivate your expired license

If your certification has expired for less than three years and you cannot provide verification of work, you are required to retake and pass the competency exam to reactivate your certification. In that case, you need to apply for retesting with an approved regional test site. Call the Nurse Aide Program at (800) 414-4358 and request the testing application or visit Credentia and log in to your CNA365 account.

If your certification has expired for more than three years, you must undergo another State-approved nurse aide training program and pass the State’s written/oral and skills competency exams to update your certification.
